my thoughts on sharing photo locations

one of the most incredible things about instagram (and pretty much the internet in general) is that it has become a source of endless inspiration for content. from outfits and beauty ideas, to lifestyle and fitness goals, instagram has infinite pages of videos and photos to look at. but time and time again, i see photos of the cutest coffee shops or the most charming brownstones with the geotag “new york, new york" (if any at all) as if the poster wants to prevent anyone else from instagramming from the same location…and will ignore any questions pertaining to the location of the photo.

a spade is a spade: my thoughts on the new direction of kate spade new york

today is the day!

today is the first day of the official redesign of one of my favorite (if not my most favorite) brands! early last year it was announced that nicola glass would be replacing deborah lloyd as creative director of kate spade. while i know anyone who follows me knows i am a kate spade fanatic (and former employee) and that i’ve have always loved the brand, i knew nicola was going to take the brand into the next stage of its life. when nicola’s first collection first hit the runway last fashion week, i will be honest, there were pieces that i loved…and some, not so much. was this redesign too drastic for the kate spade customer? was it going to stray too far from the whimsical brand i once knew? i had to wait and see it for myself in person.

once and foral

with the end of summer nearing, i’m trying to squeeze in my last few floral dresses. so when i went home to detroit a few weeks ago, i carved out just enough time to photograph this kate spade dress (first seen on my instagram here) from my favorite view of detroit…in canada! so i grabbed my passport and headed across the river to windsor, ontario to get these photos at sunset.

while most passing people in new york are used to the typical blog shoot, the residents of windsor were not quite sure what to make of it so to say i got a lot of looks would be an understatement haha! but it was all worth it because these are some of my favorite photos i’ve taken while back home!

dress: kate spade
bag: tory burch (old, similar here)
shoes: chanel (similar here and here)
earrings: tory burch
bracelets: cartier
sunglasses: max mara

my first nyc apartment

it has been an incredible experience living here in nyc so far. from the moment i graduated high school i knew i was going to end up in the greatest city in the world (okay biased but still). my search for an apartment began immediately when i accepted an offer from bloomingdale's to be a part of their executive program. thankfully i was familiar with the new york real estate market simply due to the two internships i had in the city prior to graduation. but this time around, i was footing the bill. and the tip too.

the most instagrammable spots in nashville

i know what you're all thinking...i just travel for the instagrammable spots. and you're definitely right about that haha! but what most people don't know is that a lot of work goes in to finding these adorable (and sometimes delicious) spots and then tracking them down. so i'm going to make it extra easy for you if you ever find yourself in nashville and in need of an instagram! when ashley and i were prepping for this trip, i made a powerpoint...yes you heard that correctly...a powerpoint of all the locations we wanted to hit up. and then within this powerpoint, i included opening hours if it was a business or which direction it was facing so we would know the best time to go (aka for the sun). some may call it crazy but i call it efficient. because we only had one full day to fit this all in. talk about crunch time!

dress: kate spade (also love this version)
bag: kate spade
shoes: madewell
bracelets: cartier
earrings: vanda jacintho
sunglasses: illesteva (old, similar here)

talk birdie to me

for those of you who don't necessarily pay close attention to my instastories, you may not have known i am a huge golf nerd...as in i literally play whenever i can and am even considering going to a golf camp for a weekend to master my game! but aside from that, i think we can all imagine how i reacted when i was given the opportunity to attend one of the practice rounds of the grand-daddy of all golf tournaments: the masters!

i present to you...

after participating in new york's fashion week for a few seasons now, the glitz, glamour, and allure have worn off just slightly. but that doesn't mean i don't get giddy seeing new and fabulous designs come down the runway! this season, i had the amazing opportunity to attend the kate spade presentation and it's safe to say having worked for the company on and off since 2012 (and only recently leaving in october) it was literally a dream come true! i had never attended the presentation before and was like a kid in a candy store walking in. but attending my first kate spade presentation, i couldn't show up in just anything! i originally had planned on wearing this dress but after trying it on, it was just a little too much for me. so i opted for this fun shirtdress that was beyond comfortable! which came in handy because in addition to being in front of the camera for part of the day, i had to wear it behind the camera as well!

honey, i'm home

as much as i love traveling, there is nothing quite like coming home. after taking one of the longest trips i've ever been on to paris, vienna, salzburg, and hallstatt (with a few days in detroit), i was so relieved to finally be able to sleep in my own bed. all in all, i was gone for a total of 3 weeks and 3 days and carried 3 rolling bags in addition to my camera equipment all across europe. i was exhausted! but nothing can ever compare to coming home to new york. sometimes i get caught up in the craziness of the city and forget how truly wonderful this place is! so it takes a little vacation to remember that new york is my true love. i am beyond thankful that i get to live in such a creatively simulating and energetic city that is full of countless opportunities. so every time i wear this sweatshirt, it serves as a little reminder of the greatest place on earth! ...but i'm not biased.

bag it up // the benefits of shopping in europe

oh paris, your charm and culture are irresistible...but not quite as irresistible as that 13% v.a.t. (value added tax). for those who may not be familiar, when shopping in europe the tax is included in the price on the tag *cough* america...get on that *cough* and any non-european resident has the opportunity to get that tax back when leaving the country. i know! this makes shopping in europe that much more fun because you seemingly get a 13% discount wherever you go! and when there is a big purchase i want to make and know i'm going to be travelling, i do all the research that i can before leaving for any overseas trip. but let's break this down a little further. of course, prices are going to vary between brands and different countries (with different currencies) that they may be located in so it's always handy to do a little leg work if you are going to be visiting multiple countries. however, more often than not, the home country of the brand is going to be the least expensive (i.e. ted baker is the least expensive in england and tory burch is the least expensive in the us) so i knew my trip to paris would be my opportunity to finally get my hands on the céline clasp bag - to obviously complete my transformation into a 95 year old woman.

the need for tweed

i am never not ready for the holidays...seriously! now that halloween is over, we can focus on what's truly important: christmas!! christmas is the most wonderful time of the year and i couldn't be happier that it is just around the corner. with the holidays approaching, the invites to the plethora of holiday events, parties, and just any excuse to put on a sparkly dress are right around the corner and this sparkle tweed dress has me ready for every single one of them! tweed is one of those fabrics that you can't help but feel sophisticated in and you know i'm going to be wearing it until it is 90 degrees again.

prepping for fall

fall is officially here but that doesn't mean mother nature is quite caught up with the times as yesterday's temperatures were in the high 80s. ugh! so let the awkward transition period begin where all i want to wear are chunky sweaters as all of my summer dresses have been put away. sticking to darker hued dresses will be my go to option until the weather can finally cool down a bit. as soon as i saw this dress when it arrived into the store, i immediately snagged my size. i normally don't gravitate towards a sheath silhouette but seeing this print made my decision easy. and although this dress doesn't have sleeves, i knew i would be able to layer it with ease...you know, when it actually gets cold. it also comes with a matching jacket that would give me major blair waldorf vibes if they were worn together!

make the cut

i'm no stranger to tailoring pieces to fit my body better. as i mentioned here, i sometimes go as far as basically having a whole new garment created! this dress hit the awkward sweet spot between being a maxi dress/gown and being a midi dress on me. you know the one that hits just above the ankle? not a great look to say the least. so my instant solution was to have it hemmed! easy right!? well it would have been if it weren't for the pesky embellishments and the tiered ruffles. so i made a split decision and had my tailor cut the entire bottom section off...aka 14 inches!

a step in the stripe direction

it's no secret that i'm mildly obsessed with stripes...so there was no surprise when i instantly fell in love with this flutter sleeved dress! oh, and pippa middleton kind of liked it too so no big deal. i have worn this dress on countless occasions (most of them being work) and the silhouette makes it perfect for anything life throws at you! i hope everyone has an amazing monday and an even better week ahead!

taking shape

one thing people may not know about me is that i am a total math nerd - i even majored in finance in college! but one of my favorite segments of my math progression was geometry. now don't get me wrong, i will always have a special place in my heart for a good floral pattern but there is just something about a bold geometric print that makes me stop and stare! of course i needed to pair this statement skirt with my classic stripe tee (that i've had for ages) to add that extra pop! and as i was beginning this post, i saw jenn wear this same skirt three different ways. check out her post here! but we talk about that gingham top with it!? #stunning!

concrete jungle

new york city can be a jungle...just minus any of the actual greenery. so i often resort to adding some green to the concrete with a fabulous print! this "jardin" print from kate spade's may collection jumped out at me as soon as i saw it - and i'm not going to lie, i basically wear this dress every day to work! the fun pops of color (can you see the little humming birds on the print too?) paired with the lace detail create the perfect spring dress to help me conquer the wilderness!

waving the white flag

is it too early in the season to wave my white flag? summer is here and mother nature is not being shy about it! the heat and humidity are in full swing and the only thing i can manage to put on in the morning are little (preferably white) dresses. when the humidity percentage is higher than my rent, i reach for dresses, like this one, that are easy, lightweight, and breathable! the open sleeve allows me to still be modest all while keeping me cool. the only thing this dress can't do is make the temperature go back down!
