'tis the season for plaid! if you’ve been following me for a while, you know it's one of my absolute favorite prints. i wear it year round but winter time plaids tend to be my favorite because that's when we can break out the festive tartan. tartan is a type of plaid originating in scotland that adheres to a certain pattern specifics. their scottish origins result in the classic red, blue and green color palettes that we so adore for christmas time. so pro tip: if you are looking for a more traditional plaid, including "tartan" in your web search will help a lot! below, i've included some of my favorite current plaid and tartan pieces for you to browse. i hope my roundup of favorite plaid holiday looks from over the years gives you some styling inspiration!

after a month off from the blog, i’m finally back and ready for action! some of you may have seen on my stories that last week i was able to live out my life-long dream of being elsa while in canada. okay, it hasn’t been thaaat long but since discovering the most incredible ice masterpiece in alberta from this music video, i knew i needed to get there one day. dana and i had been talking about going on a winter trip for some time and since she was going to have a week off before starting her new job, we knew then would be our chance!

i was so excited when my family and i decided to head across the pond to celebrate my favorite holiday. now i know nyc does christmas decorations pretty well, but nothing can compare to london. while everyone in my family has been to london, i’ve never been during christmas and was eager to see all of the decorations in person! from my photo locations to what we did and where we ate, i break i all down for you below!
Read Morethis past week i embarked on a journey of a lifetime to finland! if you followed along on my #KeepingUpWithFinland journey on instagram, you would know i was invited by the zapwater team, visit finland, and arctic treehouse hotel. finland has always been a country on my must-visit list and i was so excited and honored that the team invited me to not only join, but photograph the trip!
Read Morewell it’s that time of year again! i headed back home to attend the detroit institute of arts annual fundraising gala with my family. this year i opted for a more traditional look with a simple black ballgown and decided to make it a little more covered up by adding this lace button down from the archives. once i tried on everything it screamed “queen victoria meets billie porter" …and i’m not going to lie, i think i nailed it! haha!

in today’s social media age, people are seemingly defined by their follower count. as of this week, i have around 25k followers and while that may seem like a lot to some people, my following pales in comparison to my peers…especially those in nyc. to be honest, it gets incredibly frustrating and often discouraging regardless of how hard i try not to play the comparison game. the loop giveaways are running rampant and there doesn’t seem to be any slowing down of people trying to take shortcuts. i was even told once that it was “cute” how i’ve kept my small following simply because i didn’t participate in that rubbish (sorry i’ve been watching mary poppins returns and now i think i’m british). i had a “wait, what?!?” moment haha! but what real impact does this have on me? it really comes down to brands and partnerships.

happy tuesday! today i'm sharing my favorite outfit from my trip to kennebunkport with dana that has a little twist to it; this button down, layered underneath the cutest corduroy pinafore, is actually from j.crew mens! for this trip, i wanted a more relaxed feel so that's why i beelined right to the men's section. not only do they have just as cute of prints (if not the same) in the perfect oversized fit with out of control comfy fabric, but the price is so much less expensive! especially when you look at the "boyfriend" shirt from the women's section compared to just getting a boyfriend shirt from the men's section (minus the boyfriend). it's really a win/win if you ask me!

what better way to celebrate one of my favorite holidays (mostly because everyone wears pink and red) than by sharing the details from my girl's getaway with dana to kennebunkport, maine! we were so honored to have been asked to help celebrate the most romantic of months in this charming town to kick off paint the town red! but before i get into all of the good stuff, it is crucial that i share the perfection that was my hotel: the grand hotel. located just before the bridge to what is considered kennebunkport, this quaint hotel in kennebunk was just what i needed for a weekend getaway! as soon as i checked in, i jumped into the frette robe that was hanging and had to stop myself from eating all of the chocolates that awaited me on the coffee table. after getting settled in my hotel, and dana in hers, we headed out to explore the town!
Read Morenow you couldn't think i could leave vermont without sharing the outfit that i wore overalls in could you!? i was definitely stepping outside of my comfort zone here but i figured it was about time i tried out the trend. i was nervous to actually wear them at first but once i found this pair and saw how comfy they were, i am completely on board with this trend now! and better yet, they are under $40! i decided to layer them with this fair isle sweater for the perfect winter look! now i can't wait to style these again for a more city appropriate version! hope everyone has an amazing monday!
Read Moreduring our trip to vermont, andrea and i had the amazing opportunity to stay at the cutest hotel in the entire state: the woodstock inn. i had popped by this hotel for lunch when i was last in vermont and there was no doubt in my mind that i needed to come back. so nearly three years later, andrea was willing to journey the 5+ hour drive with me to get a better look at this cute little inn...this time as a guest!
Read Morewelcome to woodstock! i had been dying to come back to vermont after visiting it for the first time almost three years ago! my last trip was during the summer, and although it was absolutely stunning, i was itching to come back in the winter. snow covered mountains is one of my favorite sights...because sandy beaches are so 2005. andrea and i decided to make the nearly 5-hour trek up to woodstock to get in some snow time (outside of nyc). unfortunately, on the drive up, it was pouring rain and continued to rain throughout the afternoon and evening. the michigander in me knew this only meant one thing come morning: ice...and a lot of it. thankfully it was cold enough that the snow didn't leave us completely but it was all covered with a sheet of ice. weather challenges aside, that didn't stop up from exploring the town!
Read Morei'm definitely a sucker for the snow! ...not always the sub-freezing temperatures but it's definitely better than being too hot. when i saw the forecast for nyc said snow this past weekend, i started preparing for magical day! new york city is the perfect backdrop to look just like a snow globe and this snowfall did not disappoint! lydia and i braved the weather to get just the right shots all while gripping my hot chocolate as it was my only source of warmth. we immediately hopped right in a restaurant when we were done shooting and treated ourselves to some ahhhmazing burgers right next to grand central station! i mean seriously...who can ask for a better day!? there is still a little bit of snow sticking around the city but i truly can't wait for the next snowfall!
