come sail away

if you have been following along on my instastories, it has been quite the adventurous few weeks for me. i began my roughly two week long trip with a family wedding in puerto vallarta, mexico. but while i may have absolutely loved the outfit that i was going to wear to the ceremony, i knew i wanted to be sure to exclude any blogging or photography (aside from iphone photos of course) during those days with my family. mostly because my parents may be used to my blogging ridiculousness, but my extended family definitely isn't...and i didn't think this was the opportunity to expose them to that side of me haha! but about a month ago, i saw this beyond incredible dress on karen of where did u get that and needed it immediately knowing it would be perfect for this beachside wedding. knowing i wasn't going to be shooting this in mexico, i decided to get a jump start and use this dress as an excuse to do my favorite springtime activity: rowing boats in central park! and i'm especially thankful to lydia because just days earlier she witnessed someone fall in the lake trying to take a photo...needless to say she was scarred and i offered that we used my equipment this day!

seattle and the unpredictable weather

when dana and i decided to head to the west coast for the skagit valley tulip festival, we didn't really have anything else on our agenda except we knew we wanted to stop at the pike place market. i know, stereotypical but hey, we couldn't help it! as i mentioned here, dana and i had taken the 6am flight from new york to seattle to maximize our first day. we also wanted to feel out what this whole crazy seattle weather situation was going to be like because the forecast predicted rain every single day. but tim gunn would have been proud because we definitely made it work. we became mini al roker's because we would obsess over the hourly breakdown of the weather and constantly checked the radar for updates. any time there was a patch of good weather coming up, we ran to the location!

colors of the wind

to give a little back story on this post, a few years ago, i saw the stunning rach parcell visit the dreamiest of tulip fields. as much as i would have loved to hop on a plane and jet off to washington state, back then, i would never have been able to justify flying to the other side of the country to visit a field of flowers. but now? it's a whole different story. thankfully i was able to persuade dana to come along with me just a few weeks before the skagit valley tulip festival began and what seemed like only days later, we were on our way to seattle! we arrived to the rainy city tired after our 6am flight but this meant we had the whole day to explore downtown. we dropped our bags off at our hotel and headed to the typical seattle hotspots (but more on that later).

my first nyc apartment

it has been an incredible experience living here in nyc so far. from the moment i graduated high school i knew i was going to end up in the greatest city in the world (okay biased but still). my search for an apartment began immediately when i accepted an offer from bloomingdale's to be a part of their executive program. thankfully i was familiar with the new york real estate market simply due to the two internships i had in the city prior to graduation. but this time around, i was footing the bill. and the tip too.

sunset in nashville

when ashley and i decided on nashville as our next trip, we thought it would be a nice break from the cold nyc weather (well at least for me because ashley lives in georgia!) and this would be a good opportunity to shoot some spring looks. however, we were shocked to see the weather forecast as the high 30s/low 40s for our entire trip and the weather channel even predicted snow for that saturday. uhh i'm sorry, what!? but with all of our spring looks packed, we had to make do! we originally had planned on stopping by the john seigenthaler pedestrian bridge (shown here) first thing in the morning after our arrival for a sunrise shoot but strong winds and freezing temperatures weren't exactly ideal. so we zipped off to a dunkin donuts to warm up and readjusted our schedule to stop at the bridge for the (cloudy) sunset.

pick a flower any flower

happy friday! i'm so happy you guys loved my instagrammer's guide to nashville a few days ago but there was very one important location that i felt deserved it's own post: amelia's flower truck of course! this charming flower store on wheels has everything an instagram obsessed girl could ask for. and because the location changes, ashley and i literally had to track it down...and by that i mean look on their website to see where it was that day haha.

the most instagrammable spots in nashville

i know what you're all thinking...i just travel for the instagrammable spots. and you're definitely right about that haha! but what most people don't know is that a lot of work goes in to finding these adorable (and sometimes delicious) spots and then tracking them down. so i'm going to make it extra easy for you if you ever find yourself in nashville and in need of an instagram! when ashley and i were prepping for this trip, i made a powerpoint...yes you heard that correctly...a powerpoint of all the locations we wanted to hit up. and then within this powerpoint, i included opening hours if it was a business or which direction it was facing so we would know the best time to go (aka for the sun). some may call it crazy but i call it efficient. because we only had one full day to fit this all in. talk about crunch time!

country road

my second nashville post is here and it's all about that historic and classic vibes this city has to offer! ashley and i woke up crazy early to beat the crowds to go to the iconic broadway in the heart of nashville. similar to the broadway in nyc, this street gets the most action from tourists who just want to have a good time. the street is packed with bars and restaurants and it's safe to say it has never seen a quiet night.

getting cheeky with nashville

hello again! i know i have been incredibly sporadic on the site (and instagram as well) but i'm happy to announce that i've finally moved into my new apartment! i mentioned briefly here that i had had it with my old (and first) apartment here in nyc and needed an out fast. i quickly fell in love with a similar sized apartment but this time with the benefit of an elevator and a doorman. literal life changers! the past week as been so hectic with all of the suuuper fun moving responsibilities that my blog has taken a back seat. well, after my few days off, i'm finally able to sit down and share my posts from my trip to nashville with ashley!

the ins and outs of breakfast at tiffany's

the day is finally here! yes, that's right, i'm sharing all of the details from my fabulous morning having breakfast with andrea at the blue box café back in february! oh yeah, you heard that correctly...february. so disregarding my blatant laziness on posting this, i wanted to be sure i walked you all through how to get reservations at the coveted restaurant and how to channel your inner holly golightly all at the same time! for starters, the reservations. of course andrea and i had an advantage because we live in nyc so we had very little obstacles to plan around but we knew we wanted to get there right as the restaurant opened. reservations are all done on their website and open up at 9am, 30 days before. so naturally i set my alarm for 8:55am (just like signing up for classes in college) and refreshed the page until 9am. thankfully the 10am reservation slot popped up and i snatched it faster than a 70% off tv during a black friday sale! and while there is technically a waitlist if all of the slots are full, the probability that something will open up is slim because the tables are so limited. so if you're not from nyc but know you'll be planning a visit, mark your calendar for reservations 30 days in advance!

flippin' good vacation

with spring not wanting to make up its mind on whether to stay or to go, i escaped the cold by heading down to naples, florida with my family over the easter holiday! while i tried to keep this holiday weekend a real vacation (aka no blogging), the flowers had bloomed just in time for my arrival and they coincidentally matched my new dress so obviously i had to take my camera out juuuust once!

on the case

over the past few months, i've done quite a bit of detective work...so i figured i should probably dress accordingly for my new self-appointed role in society. after the large nordstrom package that was stolen from my apartment lobby back in december, i was in contact with quite a few detectives in the 19th precinct here in nyc. and i have to say...they could have done better dressing the part. so i'm helping them out! haha! once i found this trench, everything else fell into place. all i'm missing is my magnifying glass and i'll be sure to catch the thief who stole my package (and the two others from a few weeks ago)!

faux real

faux fur is for real this season! with the temperatures hovering over freezing, i knew i couldn't beat mother nature for spring to get here so i'm compromising and strutting around town with this faux fur coat in my favorite color! perfect for the days when i want it to be spring, but it's still frigid. paring this coat with a little sequined blouse and purple pants (because duh) and i was out the door!

broadway baby

for those of you who may not know, i'm kind of a broadway nerd. i even went to a broadway camp here in nyc when i was in middle school...i know...it's okay to be jealous. but ever since i realized my fate of not being the best singer, i knew i would have to settle for only being an audience member. but i'm definitely okay with that! most recently i've seen mean girls on broadway, dear evan hansen (twice), hello dolly, anastasia, and then when i got the invitation to attend frozen on broadway a few weeks ago, i couldn't say no! as much as i wanted to channel my inner elsa, i decided to dress away from the theme of the musical and opted for a more sophisticated ensemble. i had so much fun feeling like an old hollywood star in this trumpeted skirt and completed the look with my favorite grandma bag...and it was so comfortable for the evening!

monday blues

okay well that was a much longer break from blogging than i anticipated it being! it's been three weeks but i'm finally back with my last post from charleston! but i also wanted to come on here to share why i've been a little mia not only here on the blog but also why i've been minimal on my instagram. the short answer? life has been crazy! but the long answer is definitely a little more complex. not only am i planning a million trips at the moment but i finally hit a breaking point with my starter 5th-floor walk-up apartment in nyc. some of you who follow me on instagram may remember i had a fairly large nordstrom package stolen from my building's entrance in december. i was shocked as i had never had any issues prior to this. while nordstrom refused to do anything, american express saved the day and reimbursed me for the full amount! it's safe to say i will be an amex member for life now!

blast from the past

i mean...vintage cars...do i really need to say more? the last time andrea was in charleston, she had such a fun shoot with a vintage convertible and i'm not afraid to say that i had a little fomo! so i persuaded andrea to do it all over again...but this time with yours truly. duh! we were so lucky to partner with low country valet to use "aida" for our shoot. we had so much fun pretending that it was our own and i had a hard time giving it back! with all of the original interior, i truly felt as if i had been transported back in time...and my vintage car dress definitely helped set the mood. with the perfect setting of charleston behind us, we couldn't have asked for a more picturesque scene!
